Energy Systems
Degree:
Bachelor of
Engineering (Honours)
Length:
4 years
Start
dates: September
General
information
Students in the honours bachelor of engineering in energy systems
engineering will learn the skills to design and develop tomorrow's energy
systems. This degree program is the
first stand-alone program of its kind in Canada. The program was developed to meet the rapidly
increasing demand for graduates with the knowledge and skills required to help Canada and the rest of the world meet the terms
of the Kyoto
agreement, while ensuring that the growing consumption of energy can be
satisfied economically and with minimum impact on the environment. The curriculum was designed to provide an
understanding of the principles and applications of the full range of energy
systems and technologies from traditional fossil-fuelled energy systems to
alternative energy technologies. This
includes the production, storage, distribution and utilization of energy.
Careers
Graduates will be well prepared to work with systems that involve
the generation, transmission or utilization of energy. Career opportunities are increasing for
graduates in industry, government and non-government organizations. Graduates may also choose to start their own
energy enterprise or pursue graduates studies.
Professional
designation
This program was developed to meet the requirements of the
Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.
Graduates will be eligible to apply for licensure as a professional
engineer in any Canadian province or territory.
Admission
requirements
Current
Ontario secondary school students must complete the Ontario Secondary School
Diploma (OSSD) with a minimum overall average of 70 per cent in six 4U or 4M
credits, including:
::
English (ENG4U);
::
Physics (SPH4U);
::
Chemistry (SCH4U);
::
Advanced Functions (MHF4U); and
::
Calculus and vectors mathematics (MCV4U).
In
addition, a combined minimum 70-per cent average in math and science courses is
required, with no grade below 60 per cent.
All other applicants should refer to section 4.5 of the Calendar for the requirements for their
specific category of admission.
Degree
requirements
To be eligible for the BEng (Hons) degree in energy systems
engineering, students must successfully complete 135 credit hours, including
all courses outlined in the program map.
For course descriptions, see section 17 of the Calendar.
